Story
BrightLocal are at it again to raise funds for a Brighton based charity that we have supported before with some of the team taking part in the Tough Mudder. This challenge is slightly less physical but none the less tough. 4 of the team - Andy, Myles, Carlos, Callum and Nic are sleeping out on December 9th to raise funds. We each need to raise £304 which is £1 for each day that the Clocktower Sanctuary provides support for young people each year.
We get to choose to do this and then go home to our comfortable beds and homes but so many young people in Brighton and Hove and, indeed, countywide do not get to make this choice and either sleep rough, sofa surf or live in insecure temporary or emergency accommodation.
The Clock Tower Sanctuary is the only drop-in day centre for 16-to-25 year olds experiencing homelessness in the city. It provides vital practical and emotional support so that young people can reach their potential and help break the cycle of homelessness.
£10 can pay for a young person to have a shower, wash their clothes and eat a healthy, hot meal.
£20 can pay for a new pair of shoes or clothing for a job interview or first day of work.
£200 can pay for training and supporting a volunteer to support a young person.
£500 can pay for a young homeless person to access all of the Clock Tower Sanctuary's support and facilities for two months.
They support people like Harry:
Most importantly for me, CTS is a safe space where you can go, where you can get some food, get some help with housing, or if you need to clean up you can have a shower. It's a community for people in similar situations. I've never experienced that before in my life. Harry, 22 (he/him)
