Story
24 intrepid explorers (including me!) are setting out for 3 days hiking on remote mountain trails in the Fiz Massif mountain range adjoining Mont Blanc in the French Alps. We will be hiking to altitudes of over 2300m (Carrauntoohil is 1038m, Ben Nevis is 1345m,), carrying all our own equipment and sleeping in remote mountain refuges.
The Northwood African Education Foundation was established in 2011 by parents, children and staff at Emily & Aoife’s school, Broomwood Hall. The charity's aim was to build and run a new school, St George’s, for orphans and the most vulnerable children in Ethiopia, integrating the high standards of education the children in London enjoy with the best of the Ethiopian curriculum.
The trip itself is self funded, but we are trying to fundraise as much as possible, and all of your donations will go directly to the school to keep these vulnerable children within the safety of St George's School.
Now in its 2nd year, the Broomwood Hall Alpine Challenge is one of the biggest fundraisers for St Georges School in Ethiopia and this year the school needs the funds more than ever. Rising inflation, together with an increase of 500% -700% in food costs is having a dramatic impact on St George's and the support needed to help these children. In recent months due to the influx of refugees from Sudan there has been civil unrest and intermittent local lockdowns due to military interventions to protect the Gondar region where St George's is located. In order to get food supplies in such difficult times, we really need your help.
St George's provides these children with:
A completely free education
Two nutritious meals a day
All educational resources
Healthcare and development checks
School uniform
Transport to and from the school
You can change lives today by supporting the St. George's School Alpine Challenge! Thank you so much for supporting this very worthy challenge!
