Story
Hello, my name is Brandon Carter and in September I am going to be volunteering in Itacaré, Brazil teaching drowning prevention and water safety to local children!
Drowning claims 360,000 lives every year, most drownings occurring in low- and middle-income countries. Swim Tayka (https://swimtayka.org/) envisions a world where no child be denied access to swimming lessons because of economic status, striving to achieve this with partnerships to a range of International charities all over the world! Through these partnerships free swimming lessons are provided to disadvantaged children, partially funded and support by volunteers such as myself.
Following my volunteering in Indonesia with SwimTayka in 2022, I knew straight away I’d want to get involved in another project as soon as possible. I have been working as volunteer support for SwimTayka and the Brazil project presents me with a new and exciting challenge.
In Brazil, I will be volunteering with Swim Tayka’s partner ETIV Do Brasil (https://etivdobrasil.org/) teaching swimming lessons, drowning prevention and water stewardship to underprivileged children and youth living along Itacaré's rivers and ocean.
For the trip to go ahead I need to fundraise £1500. This will go towards lodging for the duration of the project, in-country ground transportation, on-site and office support, equipment donations and donations to SwimTayka and Etiv Do Brasil. I will be paying for my own flights, visas and travel insurance.
As a part of my fundraiser I will be attempting The UK National Three Peaks challenge at the end of June. I am also planning other events which will contribute to my fundraiser, details will be added to my JustGiving page as and when they are finalised. This page and my Instagram (BrandonKDCarter) will be used for updates about volunteering and fundraising. Any donations and shares would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you for reading.
