Story
I have recently joined a fundraiser to support colorectal cancer.
Every day one Nova Scotian dies from colorectal cancer and this is 90% preventable.
Get Up There (GUT) raises funds and awareness to support colorectal cancer screening and prevention. Funds raised through GUT helped the Dartmouth General Hospital purchase state-of-the-art equipment and technology used to screen for colorectal cancer and to open a 3rd Endoscopy Suite which is used exclusively for screening FIT-positive patients. The wait list for FIT-positive screening has been eliminated thanks to this new Suite.
Funds raised through GUT 2024 will help purchase an endoscopic ultrasound for DGH - the first of its kind for Halifax.
Most of you know that we lost an amazing person (and my best friend since high school) to colorectal cancer in 2022, my wife Maryse. Maryse is the loving mother to my beautiful twin girls, was passionate about the work she did (Life Flight RT with the IWK), and loved those close to her ferociously. Early detection could have saved her life. It is for Maryse, my girls and all those living with colorectal cancer and their families that I am taking part in this fundraiser.
Please consider supporting me and this campaign so we can get more Nova Scotians screened and treated for colorectal cancer.
