Story
Celebrating the 10th anniversary of donating my spare kidney to a stranger, I am supporting a group cycling 500 miles from Edinburgh to Oxford during Organ Donation Week 2023, stopping off at transplant centres around the UK enroute raising awareness of living kidney donation and to show people you can lead a full and healthy life with only one kidney.
Illness and injury is preventing me from taking the active part I wished to, however I hope to ride parts of the route and will support the team and media activities throughout.
This year will also mark the 1000th living kidney donation to a stranger. Give a Kidney is the foremost charity raising awareness and supporting donors. There are more than 5000 people in the UK in need of a kidney with about 250 people dying annually because of insufficient kidneys available for transplant. On the team we have both donors and recipients taking part.
Thank you - your support is greatly appreciated!
