Story
Why am I raising money for EGLAC?
I volunteer at East Greenwich Legal Advice Clinic (EGLAC) sessions as a host, greeting people, making cups of tea, helping the ensure the evening runs smoothly.
Since I began volunteering at the Wednesday evening sessions, my eyes have been opened the amazing services provided and the difference EGLAC makes to the lives of those it serves. I have seen many clients arrive for their appointments apprehensive and leave after, grateful to have been listened to and for the advice they have been given.
The caring service and the difference I have seen it make is what inspired me to raise funds for EGLAC through running Brighton Marathon on 7th April this year.
Any donations would be gratefully received!
Who are ELGAC?
East Greenwich Legal Advice Clinic is a pro bono (free) legal advice service available to people living in a South East London postcode who are unable to afford legal advice.
Our advisers are all volunteer lawyers who help people with a wide range of legal queries, covering family law, immigration, housing, civil litigation and more. People come to us needing advice regarding various situations – such as being threatened with eviction, living in poor housing conditions, being unable to see their children and experiencing domestic abuse – but without the resources to pursue legal remedies.
In 2023 we provided free legal advice to 276 people. We also signposted 319 people to other services in appropriate cases. Our vision is of a society in which everyone has equal access to quality legal advice regardless of income or background.
