Story

Project #BentleysBachelorPad

Bentley is full time permanent resident here with us. Some of you may already know of him as he has been with us for quite a few years now. He has a bit of a reputation for being ‘grumpy’, but we believe he is just misunderstood. However, because of his ways, rehoming him sadly was not an option and because of our very strict no destruction policy, of course, we then became his permanent home.

Bentley is a very typical Akita, very aloof, stubborn, set in his ways, and an absolute diva at times, but we all love him dearly and we wouldn’t change him for the world. He has a fantastic bond with our male staff member who lives on site here and we’ve had a dream for a while now of setting Bentley up with his own private kennel and run, away from the main kennel block and closer to the main house. Here he will have a lot more peace and quiet and more importantly, a lot more space and he can potter inside and out all day and just do his own thing which he absolutely loves. This also will free up his current kennel space so we will have 1 extra kennel available to rescue another dog.

This however, is quite a project! We have an area in mind for the kennel to go, and we first need to arrange for a concrete base to go down. Once that’s done, we can look at purchasing a kennel and all the accessories needed to make Bentley his very special new home.

So, we’re starting the ball rolling to make this happen! We’ve estimated that all in the project will cost around £10,000. We’ve set up a Just Giving Page for anyone who would like to be a part of Bentley’s new home. Even just donating the price of a coffee will make a huge difference and will help us reach our target.

Is this a lot for 1 dog? Yes. Does Bentley deserve it? Absolutely! This kennel is also not just for Bentley, it will be a home for another long stayer or permanent resident after him and this addition to our site will remain a special place for the special ones that need it and who call us home.

Thanks so much to all those of you who keep on supporting us and for helping us to continue to help what’s most important to us, our dogs.

Update 02/08/23

We have some better news to share regarding our big lad. Further results have shown that Bentley’s cancer is not prostate, it’s a type of bladder cancer.

While it is still cancer, the prognosis is a lot better. We’re just waiting on some blood results to come in but we’re hoping with medication, we can keep this cancer stable and he will be with us for hopefully much longer than we thought. 🙏

Thanks so much for all of your well wishes for him. We know for sure that Bentley knows just how special he is because of his diva behaviour.

We are full steam ahead still with his bachelor pad project as we’re confident he will now get some time in it. We would of built it anyway in his memory but to know he should get the chance to enjoy it and be the first one to call it home, means the world. 💙
