Story
In 2022, Pierre-Henry Gagey of Louis Jadot and his Burgundian friends joined forces with international teams of cyclists to raise funds for associations in the restaurant and hospitality sectors that were badly affected by the pandemic. After the first event in Burgundy in 2022, the second took place in the Bordeaux in 2023. A total of €600,000 has been raised in those two years to support various charitable organisations in different countries.
In 2024, Bike to Care is back in Burgundy! On 10th and 11th June 2024, teams of international hospitality personalities, chefs and sommeliers will gather from the four corners of the world and test their cycling endurance on the 200km circuit through Burgundy, alongside teams of growers from Burgundy and Bordeaux. Each team will be responsible for raising sponsorship funds and choosing the charities that support and nurture the hospitality sector.
The UK will be supporting this year’s event with another strong team, led by Hatch Mansfield’s Mark Calver and Aaron Turner. They will be joined by members of the UK hospitality industry including Richard Davies and Richard Ball from the Calcot Collection; Joanne Taylor-Stagg and Sharon McArthur from the Anthenaeum Hotel; Nicholas Davies from the Marylebone; Danny Pecorelli from Exclusive Collection; Dan Rose-Bristow from the Torridon; Rob Flinter from the Westmont Group; James Hiley-Jones from Greenclose Hotels; Peter Dean from the Buyer, and John Stimpfig from First Press Publishing publications.
The entire sum of money raised by the UK team and their contributors will be donated to Hospitality Action, the trade charity for all those who work or have worked in UK hospitality. Since 1837, Hospitality Action has consistently innovated to deliver financial and mental health support alongside advice and signposting to people facing poverty, homelessness, and deteriorating mental health.
