Story

Sauk County Humane Society turns no animals away, even the scared, less-desirable ones, who need just a bit more time to warm up. A couple of years back, I walked in to find this shaking, terrified little puppy sitting as far back as she could in her kennel to get away from the people who she thought would do her harm. She was so timid; she wouldn't allow anyone near her to take her out. I sat with her for hours just talking with her, offering her treats, trying to prove to her there were good people out there and that I was there to help her. After a lot of treats and patience, I was finally able to earn her trust, enough for her to come to me. I knew from that point on, I needed to continue to work with her and show her the love she so deserves that she clearly hadn't had.

She came to join me for the next several months at my desk and even spent a few nights at home with me. Each day, she would interact more and more with people. In that time, she made friends with several people at the shelter as well as several other dogs. It wasn't long after that and she found her forever home with a couple who had another Sheltie just like her. They were very patient and understood her needs and knew it would take time for her to completely break out of her shell.

I am honored to work at the Sauk County Humane Society where no animal is ever turned away and where no animal is forgotten. I'm proud of the care and TLC we provide each animal. On May 3rd, I will walk for Lexi and the thousands of other animals that come through our doors needing help. That is why I am asking for your support.
