Story
Between 5 - 9th June 2023, 14 of Billie’s friends and family will complete a rowing challenge along the Thames to raise funds in Billie’s memory for the BEWT charity.
Over 5 days, we will row 85 miles along the Thames. We’ll be travelling in 4 skiffs (traditional wooden rowing boats). The journey will start in Clifton Hampden (Clifton Lock) and end in Walton Bridge (Shepperton Lock).
Most of us have no previous rowing experience and some days will need to row 20 miles to reach our finish line. We’re all in it together – so we will all pull through – it’s going to be very tough, but the end game is so worth it.
The aim of this challenge is to promote awareness and raise funds for the BEWT trust in Billie’s memory. On 7th May 2020, Billie suffered a Sub-Arachnoid Haemorrhage (SaH). After fighting for 6 days, Billie passed away on 13th May 2020. The Billie Elizabeth Wood Trust is raising money to fund vital research into the trauma that led to Billie's tragic death and prevent this from happening to others. Subarachnoid Haemorrhage is sadly under researched, however appears to affect a significant number of otherwise healthy people every year, with a startling skew towards young women.
Please give generously to this fundraising event to raise money for research into subarachnoid haemorrhage which so devastatingly took Billie away from us at such a young age. Little is known as to why this occurs and what can be so fatal to women in their mid-twenties. Our aim is to raise funds to sponsor research into this area in memory of Billie.
Please follow us on social media (@billieelizabethwoodtrust) as we progress along the route. And if you happen to be close by, feel free to come and cheer us on!
