Story
In our 25th year, please help us bring reading to more children than ever before.
Going into my 11th year at Everybody Wins! I have seen over and over the power of mentorship to make things better for children. Yes, they read better because of their mentors, and that is not a small thing. But the adjective we see the most in children's comments is "kind."
I like that she reads to me and she's really kind.
Mentors make a difference for children in so many ways, but the largest perhaps is by showing up for them week after week, and caring about them.
I like it when he reads to me and he's really nice to me.
The relationship between the mentor and the child is what makes the reading powerful. It's the reason that reading together is fun! It's the reason that children get carried away by stories. For some children, it's the reason they want to go to school on Everybody Wins! days.
My daughter was so excited for days when she could read with her mentor. She would look forward to those days all week.
My son normally does not like to go to school but any day he has his mentor he never gives us a hard time. Even when he is sick he hates to miss his mentoring time!
Next year is Everybody Wins! Vermont's 25th anniversary. We'll open programs in new schools. We'll continue our recovery from pandemic and flood—and we'll bring reading mentors to more children than ever before. We can only do it because of you. Please help us climb this mountain.
