Story
In November 2022 following my channel solo swim in September 2022 I decided I wanted a new challenge! I had been over to Hit The Wall with infinity Channel Swimming in the May and got the idea for a relay swim of the North Channel!
So I had a think and found 4 of my swim friends and they may say I “made” them join my team but they were all willing and up for it! Dawn Evitt, Caroline Baldwin, Adam Cook and Jim Lafferty!
The next decision was when to swim Jacqueline provided June 2024 (colder but less jellyfish) or September 2024 (warmer but more jellyfish)! I put this to the team and they picked June with us all being winter swimmers we thought less jellyfish and the cold sounds best!
We booked our slot and paid our deposit in December 2023!
In May 2023 I found out I was expecting the best little boy I could ever imagine in January 2024! But this came with decisions how long can I swim for and will I manage the north channel??
I swam in open water in skins (just my costume, swim hat and goggles) till 25th October 2023!
I then continued when I could swimming in the pool even up to 25th January 2024 just one week before our baby boy arrived! Still swimming front crawl!
Little man as most of you know our Jackson John arrived 1st February 2024!
On 9th March 2024 i returned to the water! Just 5 weeks after giving birth! Training restarted! The main difference i noticed other than speed was how much breastfeeding my little man would impact what got cold quicker! 😂 I’ll leave that there!
So 18 and a half weeks after giving birth to our baby I will be attempting to swim a north channel relay with 4 amazing swimmers! Weather dependent out window opens on 11th June 2024 till 20th June 2024!
Wish us luck!
The charity I have chosen is Pancreatic Cancer in memory of Janet Marriott nee Rice! Granny Jan!!
It’s unacceptable that more than half of people diagnosed with pancreatic cancer die within 3 months. Survival rates have improved enormously for most cancers, yet for pancreatic cancer, this is not the case.
Pancreatic Cancer UK is dedicated to taking on this injustice using every possible means. They're supporting people with pancreatic cancer now, campaigning, and funding vital research to transform the future. Help them to make the breakthroughs that people with pancreatic cancer so desperately need.
