Story
This summer, Power2Inspire is launching their biggest fundraiser yet: the 108 Challenge! John Willis, the charity founder and chief ambassador, was born without fully formed arms and legs and will be undertaking an epic 108-mile kayak journey from Cricklade in Wiltshire to Eton in Berkshire.
To accomplish this feat, the 108 miles have been broken down into 21 different sections along the river, and 21 volunteers will paddle with John down the river in a double kayak. I'm thrilled to be one of these volunteers!
Ever since I met John, I've been struck by his enthusiasm to make all sports inclusive. The values of Power2Inspire to build community and improve wellbeing resonate with me.
Sport has always been a huge part of my life, but after a few years of ill-health, I've become highly susceptible to injury, which has often been extremely frustrating. Sport is and will always be a significant part of my life, especially in supporting my mental health, being part of a team, and staying active.
Power2Inspire’s mission is to embed inclusive sport in sporting, education and community landscapes.
I've loved working with Power2Inspire during my time at the University of Cambridge, organising one of the first Cambridge College PowerHouseGames, as well as inclusive sports days with Maya Hodgson.
It has been amazing to witness the impact the charity's work has on student wellbeing and engagement through sports.
As John has always emphasised, "No one should be left on the bench," and I'm excited to see what we can achieve with the 108 Challenge. Any donations would be amazing!
