After running the London marathon in 2016 for charity, I have entered the ballot each year, hoping to get another chance to experience the spine-tingling atmosphere and excitement again. After many years of rejection, I was so surprised to have got in! The only spanner in the works is that I seem to have fallen out of love for pounding the pavements and am now happier on the trails and in nature, enjoying the views, walk breaks and opportunities for photos and snacks!

London is all about the people, the amazing stories and the charities that they run for so I wanted to seize the opportunity to raise some funds for a local cause.

Over the past year, many of my colleagues at the University of Strathclyde have been either directly or indirectly affected by cancer and they have received fabulous support from the Beatson Cancer Centre. When the training gets tough, I will be thinking of them and the unbelievable strength and courage they have showed in the face of adversity.
