Story
The chance to run for charity where Dad grew up in and where I studied, with my Aunt is incredible. Who knows what happens when we're gone but it feels like I can hear him saying 'howay'.
My Grandad gave up a huge amount so that Dad and his siblings could go to university, which Dad didn't let us forget. He wanted me to succeed in whatever I set my mind to, but equally was a man driven by fairness, doing the 'right' thing and in raising generations where meritocracy and work ethic was more important than being lucky.
My Aunt articulates this better than I can, and her work with Newcastle University has focused on supporting those from disadvantaged backgrounds to have the same opportunities in further education, including through the Cannon Scholarship. I am honoured to have the chance to raise some money for the same cause, and the money raised will go directly to those struggling with hardship at Newcastle University, so that they can have some support at a crucial turning point in their lives.
For Dad, for Grandpa , and for never being a shy bairn. Big love x

As well as providing immediate hardship prevention to students facing immense struggles, you are also empowering them to reach their potential in their studies and ensuring the opportunity to succeed is available for all, regardless of background or financial means.
