Story
On July 21st I will be participating in the 51st Annual RAGBRAI – The Des Moines Register's Annual Great Bicycle Ride Across Iowa. Along with 20,000 other riders, I will be cycling 450 miles from the Missouri to the Mississippi River over the course of seven days.
Although this is not a charity-based ride, I’ve decided to make it one, and since I’ve been on the Board of SCOPE (Summer Camp Opportunities Promote Education) for many years I’m dedicating my effort to benefit SCOPE. This organization’s sole mission is to send inner-city, underprivileged kids in the Northeast, Midwest and Southeast to overnight camps each summer. Since its inception in 1991, SCOPE has sent over 28,000 kids to camp across the country including 1300+ in 2024 alone.
For these kids, summer camp is transformational as it offers an escape from the chaos of inner-city life and a chance to experience nature, positive role models and develop new skills otherwise unavailable to them. And the benefits extend beyond the summer: 100% of kids receiving support from SCOPE commit to staying in school.
My goal is to raise $7500, which would send 5 kids to camp next summer. I hope you will consider supporting my ride.
Thank you in advance for your support. No amount is too small, and ALL amounts are truly appreciated.
With heart-felt thanks,
Bennett
