-Every year there are on average 40 fatalities on building sites.

-Every year there are over 2000 major accidents that incapacitate the worker in such a way they cannot return to work.

-Every year there are over 69,000 new cases of work related illness reported that can be directly attributed to working within construction.

-Stress, depression or anxiety accounts for a fifth of all work related illness.

-Over 45% of all occupational cancer cases in the UK are directly attributed to working in construction.

-Every year over 400 construction workers commit suicide.

-Every year over 1.7 million man days are lost through injury or illness in our industry.

Lighthouse Construction Industry Charity

The Lighthouse Construction Industry Charity is the only charity that provides emotional, physical and financial wellbeing support to the construction community and their families.

A crucial element of the charity’s strategy is to provide a wide range of free and widely available pro-active resources to support the industry.

We receive no public funding so rely on the industry to 'support their own'. Every penny raised helps make a difference to a construction worker in need.

The charity offers a free and confidential 24/7 Construction Industry Helpline and text HARDHAT service which provides a range of information, guidance and support on a huge variety of wellbeing issues. These services are complemented by their free Self Support App which offers another route to support, along with their Lighthouse Beacons who provide a safe space for people to share concerns.

The Lighthouse Charity’s Wellbeing Academy offers a variety of free soft skills and leadership training delivered across a variety of platforms to suit every learning style from self paced e-learning, tutor led online masterclasses and seminars, through to bespoke onsite training.
