Story
Wirral Hospice St John's provides specialist palliative care for the Wirral. It costs up to £5m a year to run the Hospice, which is at no charge to patients, yet the hospice relies on donations and fundraising activities to keep caring for patients and their loved ones at a time of need.
To raise funds for the hospice, starting on May 27th 2023, Ian & Ben Ledgerton are walking Alfred Wainwright’s 192-mile trek from St Bees on the Cumbria West Coast to Robin Hood’s Bay on the North Yorkshire Coast.
The walks are strenuous off-road trails from 6 to 24 miles per day, including many mountains across 3 national parks, so we hope you donate all you can, or what you can.
Graham Ledgerton and Mike Chew are joining us for the first (and hardest) week through Cumbria.
This walk is self funded so 100% of donations go to Wirral Hospice.
In setting a target we know;
- It costs approximately £467 to care for one inpatient per day,
- £194 Enables one patient to visit the wellbeing centre
- £198 Pays for one outpatient appointment
- £105 Provides one bereavement session for a loved one
- £100 Cost of one specialist palliative care nurse per day
Our target in raising funds for the hospice is 1 bed for 1 day.
From experience of my dad dying, 1 day in the hospice makes a lifetime’s difference. That lifetime is yours. From the moment when you meet your parents and loved ones, to the instant you die, their passing will remain the encapsulation of your love.
Please donate all you can or what you can.
