Ben's fundraiser for Kidney Research UK

London Marathon 2025 · 27 April 2025 · Start fundraising for this event
1 in 10 people are living with Kidney Disease. A statistic I never thought I’d be a part of.
On December 23rd 2023, I finished my final shift at work and was ready to start Christmas with my family, however; things didn’t go to plan and little did I know, but I was then going to be out of work for 6 months with unexplained pain and symptoms.
Initially, I thought I had the flu but my condition worsened and I was hospitalised on many occasions. I underwent numerous medical screenings including: prostate checks, ultra scans and an MRI but the tests didn’t detect anything alarming.
Appointment after appointment, blood after blood. My appetite plummeted and I found my 3 year old son was eating more than me! I was lethargic, in discomfort and beginning to go insane from being housebound and on my own.
Fast forward to May 2024 and I was sent to Hammersmith Hospital where the Renal team were amazing. They performed a kidney biopsy which showed the life changing news.
I have kidney disease!
It’s been a long road to getting answers and I’m finally back at work.
So here I am… preparing for my first ever London Marathon. Please feel free to follow my journey to the Marathon on Instagram here : https://www.instagram.com/bens_2025marathon_journey?igsh=eTlyNWpkazZ4d3E2&utm_source=qr
I’ve chosen to raise money for Kidney Research UK in order to show my appreciation to everyone who has supported me in my journey so far and to raise awareness for Kidney Disease.
Thank you for taking the time to read my story and for your kind donation.
