Story
We are both honoured to say we will be running the London Marathon on Sunday 21st April 2024 in memory of a wonderful Dad/Father-in-Law and in aid of a cause close to our hearts, Cardiomyopathy UK. Those who know us will know Jamie loves his running, but for Becky this is a whole different ball game never running a mile in her life!
Sadly, on 3rd December 2021, we suddenly lost Becky's father, Phil Daniels, only a few short months after becoming aware of any potential heart condition. Whilst we feel fortunate he was able to be with us on our wedding day. Being pregnant at the time of his passing, we’re devastated that he will never know his grandson and it breaks our heart the thought of the many happy memories they’ve had taken away from them both.
If you ask anyone Dad would light up a room as soon as he walked in, would do anything for anyone, incredibly kind, thoughtful, the best witty banter, and even on a bad day would greet you with the cheesiest of smiles!
Cardiomyopathy is a disease of the heart muscle which affects the structure of the heart and reduces the ability to pump blood around the body. It affects 1 in 500 people in the UK and hence, is one of the most common reasons why people in the UK suffer a heart attack to date.
With the condition also being hereditary, there’s a 50% potential for it to be passed down the generations. We’re therefore even more keen to do what we can to either improve those currently living with the condition or find a cure for the future.
Cardiomyopathy UK's mission objective are as follows:
- Raising the awareness of the condition - when undiagnosed, it can be fatal, so Cardiomyopathy push to ensure early detection and a diagnosis is made.
- Ensuring those suffering with Cardiomyopathy are able to live well with the condition - it's highlighted that only 9% of people with the condition received ideal care and treatment
- Working with the relevant research communities to ensure those who suffer are getting a wide quality of treatment (which includes further enhanced medical devices & medications)
- One day, sourcing a cure for the disease all in all
- Supporting the families of those suffering, whether it's throughout the course of the disease or for bereavement purposes
We appreciate money is precious, now more than ever in fact, we would be so grateful if you could consider donating anything to our sponsor page:
As challenging as this may be for us both, we’re keen to run in memory of a brilliant man and raise awareness of Cardiomyopathy.
This one’s for you Dad xx
