Story

On the 25th May 2023, Finlay Macleod passed away. He was 20 years old and had played at Rosslyn Park throughout the mini and youth age groups from the age of 5.  He was part of an exceptionally talented year group at Park.

He is sorely missed by so many family and friends and his teammates at Rosslyn Park are keen to do what they can in his memory. At the preseason games against Juddians on Saturday 19th August they will be running a barbecue before the game with all proceeds going to Retina UK, a charity very close to his heart.

When Finlay was 9 years old he was diagnosed with Retinitis Pigmentosa, a degenerative condition in which the cells in your retina break down gradually over time and can, in the long term, result in loss of vision. Finlay always surprised everyone when he told them about this diagnosis, as from the day he found out, he took it in his stride. He was determined to never be held back by it, and truly was an inspirational boy to be around continuing to play rugby at a very high level throughout school and then at Bristol University.

His teammate Tomas and his Argentinian family have a well deserved reputation as great barbecuers and we hope that as many of those who come to the game will enjoy some great food whilst also being able to contribute to a really worthwhile charity in memory of an exceptional young man. His teammates will be around the ground before and after the game if you feel able to make a contribution. If you are unable to attend but would still like to contribute then that would be great.
