The Trent Bridge Community Trust have launched the #Donate4Dementia campaign, as the future of the popular and award-winning Forget Me Notts programme comes under threat following the conclusion of its current funding cycle.

Story

Hi everyone - many of you know that my gorgeous wife Helen suffers from both Young Onset Alzheimer's dementia and breast cancer. The latter is hopefully under control but dementia is, of course, a terminal illness.

There are very few facilities nationwide aimed specifically at younger dementia sufferers but one activity which has given Helen some happiness and enjoyment, when she attends with Sarah (her amazing carer) is the weekly 'Forget Me Notts' session organised by the Trent Bridge Community Trust.

FULL DETAILS BELOW

Barry has jumped at the chance (maybe literally ??) of participating in the Zipwire Challenge, 40mph above the hallowed turf of the Trent Bridge cricket ground. Hopefully any monies raised will help to continue or hopefully expand this terrific programme and set of activities, which bring so much happiness to sufferers of this truly horrible disease.

Any sponsorship you can spare, however small, will be gratefully received and you will know that you are contributing to a great cause !

Thank you - and if I'm still in one piece after the event, I will take time to thank all supporters once again.

Barry & Helen xx

I would also like to invite supporters to consider donating directly to the #Donate4Dementia appeal, as the future of the popular and award-winning Forget Me Notts programme comes under threat following the conclusion of its current funding cycle. Please include the names 'Barry & Helen' as part of the fundraising message if you are able to donate.

Forget Me Notts seeks to help individuals by providing a safe environment and stimulating activities for individuals living with dementia, with sessions taking in golf, badminton, bowls, chairobics, or simply the opportunity to relax in an informal setting.

The scheme also facilitates a peer support network, a moment of respite and access to expert advice for carers, in light of Alzheimer's UK research which found that almost two-thirds of carers say they have had insufficient support, or even none at all.

Currently, upwards of 70 individuals attend monthly cafe sessions at Trent Bridge, with over 40 taking advantage of sports activities delivered at Edwalton Golf Centre, Rushcliffe Arena and Melbourne Park.

The programme has previously won the Health and Wellbeing Award at the Celebrating Rushcliffe Awards, and has been named Community Group of the Year by Active Notts.
