What we are doing

Barnes Construction has entered a team for the 2025 Cambridge Dragon Boat Festival. Dragon boat racing is the fastest growing water activity in Britain today! Up to 10 people paddle each 30’ boat with a drummer at the front beating time and our helm at the tail steering a straight course.

Our team are competing against over 40 companies along a 200m racecourse on the River Cam at Fen Ditton. They will undertake a minimum of 3 races whilst paddling their way to victory and raising funds for Addenbrooke's Charitable Trust!

The Charity

Addenbrooke’s Charitable Trust is the only registered charity dedicated to supporting innovation in patient care across Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

Funds raised through the Dragon Boat Festival will enable the trust to build the new Cambridge Cancer Research Hospital.

The Cambridge Cancer Research Hospital will herald a transformative approach to cancer. Situated at the heart of Cambridge’s thriving life sciences eco-system, the brand-new hospital will unite the NHS, academia and industry in a powerful collaboration that will bring scientific discoveries and technological advances from the lab bench to the patient bedside as rapidly as possible. The Cambridge Cancer Research Hospital will pioneer new ways to detect cancer earlier and treat it in a more personalised way. The breakthroughs and innovations that we deliver will change the way cancer is treated far beyond Cambridge, benefiting people living with cancer across the UK and globally.
