We're off to Uganda again in December - after a gap of 5 years. This time a team of 10 volunteers will be supporting local staff and volunteers to run kids-club style activities for over 400 children across a fun-packed 4 day programme!

Rukungiri is a small, semi-rural town in the South-West of Uganda. It's a beautiful area - rolling hills, dense forests and red marram roads. But there is a lot of rural poverty and under-investment in the area. Currently the local team in Rukungiri, Moses and Penlope, support around 460 children through different initiatives. Children in the area are often expected to be ‘seen and not heard’ and many have to spend their ‘free time’ doing household chores, looking after younger siblings or herding animals. The kids-club will be an opportunity for them to have fun, enjoy being children, make friends and socialise and eat a nutritious breakfast and lunch.

We're hoping to catch up with some of the children we met who were part of the disability project and hear how they're getting on at school.

Volunteers pay their trip costs, but we'll need funds to cover transport for children & translators/ Uganda volunteers, breakfast and lunch, and resources for activities. We're holding the clubs at schools and I'd like to take 2 play parachutes so I can leave one at each school - and some sports kit. We'd love to take coloured team bibs too. Any money we don't spend on the camp will go directly to the Rukungiri project.
