Hope Can’t Wait Until Morning—Help HOPELINE247 Save Lives Through the Night. PAPYRUS Prevention of Young Suicide needs urgent support to keep HOPELINE247 open 24/7, helping young people in crisis during their darkest hours.

Story

I am joining a dedicated team of mental health coordinators, clinical leads and social workers to raise money for a cause that is close to our hearts: the PAPYRUS Prevention of Young Suicide Emergency Appeal. Talking about suicide—especially among young people—is often uncomfortable for many, but it is crucial that we raise awareness and support for those in need.

For the first time in their 28-year history, PAPYRUS is launching an emergency appeal to keep HOPELINE247 running through the night. Without urgent support, they may face the heartbreaking decision to cut back their vital services. Every three minutes, a young person in distress reaches out to HOPELINE247, PAPYRUS' suicide prevention helpline. These calls, texts, and messages come during their darkest hours—often in the middle of the night when other services aren’t available.

Since extending HOPELINE247 to operate 24/7 last year, demand has surged dramatically. In 2024 alone, PAPYRUS had 12,000 life-saving interactions during nighttime hours and witnessed a staggering 66% increase in young people seeking help through their webchat service. HOPELINE247 is not just important; it is life-saving. However, rising costs and a significant drop in donations across the charity sector have brought them to a critical moment where your support can make all the difference.

As a group working within children and families' social care, we are committed to this challenge. We aim to walk, run, cycle, and swim a total of 2,400 km together by 10th May 2025. We understand all too well how essential services like this are for our youth.

Please help us by donating what you can to support PAPYRUS Prevention of Young Suicide. Our target is £500; every contribution counts towards keeping hope alive for those who need it most. Thank you for your generosity and support.
