Story
I’m raising money towards Ronald McDonald House Charities Uk after all the help and support they have did for my family and nephew “MARK”
Mark came into the world extremely early, twenty three weeks and one day gestational age. Weighing a tiny 560grams !
After already having spent 5 months in hospital, they have been referred to the House, meaning they would not have to travel 40 miles to go home and they could be close to their baby in case something happened.
Mark came into the world without making a sound, not breathing but ready to fight.
He was intubated and quickly whizzed to NICU where they worked on him. Mark went through the honeymoon phase, as the doctors call it and was doing well for about a week, then things started going downhill.
His lungs were severely damaged and underdeveloped and he remained maxed out on the ventilator, 100% oxygen and saturations as low as 30. Over around four months he had three courses of steroids to help his lungs and he seemed to turn a corner until he caught RSV and was back to square one.
"Doctors told us to prepare for the worst and to do end life care for Mark as his lungs were not growing on him, but we told them to do everything in their power to save our boy.
Mark fought his way through and proved everyone wrong and at 5 months old they got transferred from St. Peter's Chertsey to St George's where the long-term ventilation team have worked wonders with the little one. After nine long months, countless blood transfusions, PIC Lines 2 laser surgeries due to having ROP and hours of training, they were finally told they could be discharged just in time to spend Christmas at home.
We are forever thankful for the help of RMHC and the hospitals and staff !
Ronald McDonald House Charities UK provides free 'home away from home' accommodation to families with children in specialist children's hospitals across the UK, enabling them to be there throughout their treatment whilst maintaining a degree of normal family life.
I'm taking on the heights and skydiving from a plane as part of the Charity's Skydive Weekend, and I would be grateful for your support!
Please help me and Ronald McDonald House Charities UK to look after thousands of families across the UK, keeping them close to their poorly child in hospital.
