Story
It’s World Alzheimer’s Month, and my team and I will be joining 30,000 others across the UK for the 2024 Memory Walk, organised by Alzheimer’s Society, to raise funds for dementia research.
I entered the world of dementia research after I lost my paternal uncle and aunt to Alzheimer's disease, and I have worked as a dementia researcher for over 10 years. Initially, my research took me through the world of psychosocial interventions for Alzheimer’s; however, my current research delves into the prevalence of Frontotemporal Dementia and the vital need for early diagnosis.
Dementia is the UK's biggest killer. Someone develops it every three minutes and currently there is no cure. We know it is scary but we must confront the biggest health & social care challenge of our time.
I am leading a team of six people for this year's Memory Walk, in Plymouth:
-Dr Abimbola Alao
-Mrs Fola Akerele
-Dr Ayokunmi Ojebode
-Ms Julie McGuinness
-Dr Bukky Oriolowo
-Mrs Tolu Dada
Please help us to reach our £2,000 target. Once you donate, JustGiving sends your money directly to Alzheimer's Society. #memorywalk
