Following recent devastation in Turkey and Syria, i will be raising money to aid people in these times of need.  

On February 6th 2023, a magnitude 7.8 earthquake occurred in southern Turkey near the northern border of Syria, followed by another magnitude 7.8 earthquake approximately 9 hours later. Over 44,000 people died in Turkey, and another 6,000 in Syria, bringing the death toll over 50,000. 

On February 20th 2023, another magnitude 6.4 earthquake killed 3 people and injured 213 people in southern Turkey. 

And once again, on February 27th 2023, a magnitude 5.6 earthquake occurred in southern Turkey, causing damage to already weakened buildings which have collapsed, killing at least one person. 

 The world bank has estimated the earthquakes have cause $34.2 billion of direct physical damage, but the recovery and reconstruction cost may be twice as high. Syria’s current humanitarian emergency is among one of the largest in the world and the recent earthquakes will only exacerbate this and put further strain on the country. 

 My aim is to raise money to assist these struggling countries after having gone through extreme devastation. Thousands of people have lost their family, their homes, their lives and are in need of support immediately therefore any donation will have a big impact.
