Story
I was born and raised in South Florida and attended college at Florida State University, where I graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Neuroscience. I am applying to medical school and working as a medical assistant for Broward Health Hospital in internal medicine. Throughout my undergraduate career, I volunteered for 211 Big Bend as a crisis counselor, providing information about local community resources for individuals seeking financial, medical, and housing assistance. Additionally, I offered suicide prevention and short-term crisis counseling to those calling for emotional support. This experience reinforced the prevalent economic and social disparities affecting essential systems, such as healthcare.
This inspired me to continue my training as a crisis counselor and become certified to answer the National HIV & AIDS hotline and the National Family Health Line. These hotlines provide information and resources to those concerned about various topics, such as STDs, childcare, and pregnancy. Each call proved to me how vital quality healthcare and education are and has inspired my goal to promote preventative medicine and mitigate socioeconomic barriers to medicine in the future. With my experiences speaking with community members lacking access to routine or preventive medicine, I am honored to have been nominated as a 2023 Glammy Awards Nominee to assist underserved and underinsured women facing breast cancer diagnosis and treatment. This cause communicates heavily to my future goals as a physician and speaks to my experiences with my mother, who was diagnosed with and survived breast cancer when I was 14.
Support our Glammy Honorees continued philanthropic endeavors to assist women in the South Florida Community who are facing breast cancer and are in need of support with medical and lifestyle needs.
