Story
Hey folks! I'll be running my first ever half marathon on 13 October, supporting Alcohol Change UK. They're a fantastic charity with a sole focus on reducing alcohol harm across the UK by: improving policy and regulation; shifting cultural norms; improving behaviours and building better/more treatment and support options.
There's around 600,000 alcohol-dependent people in the UK, with 4/5 of those not receiving any treatment. The number of children in England with a parent who misuses alcohol remains consistently high, with more than 70,000 cases being recorded each year since 2019/20.
I like to think that with more awareness and funding, charities like Alcohol Change UK can really drum down on where as a society we are failing in the fight to reduce this harm and build upon our strengths to help individuals and their families.
This will be my first half-marathon; I am a mixture of nerves and excitement. I know the cause I am running for will help spur me on during those last few miles, as well as the physical and mental strength I have been building with each run I complete.
For those who can spare some change, thank you. And for those who can't - please take some time to read about what Alcohol Change UK are doing; it could help you or a loved one!
