Story
I am honored to work alongside members of our community and The RMH Foundation to raise funds specifically for the diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer at Sentara RMH.
I am the Breast Cancer Nurse Navigator at Sentara RMH and a lifelong Shenandoah Valley resident. As a nurse navigator I am guiding patients through each leg of their breast cancer journey, from diagnosis, to treatment, and onto survivorship. I not only provide education and support but anticipate barriers that may impede the patient's care.
One of the largest barriers that delay diagnosis and treatment, is the lack of insurance or finances. Sentara RMH has a generous donor program that assists in making mammograms possible for ALL patients. The funds raised from the 2023 Be an Angel for Breast Cancer campaign will be designated directly to this mammogram fund for uninsured/under-insured patients at RMH.
This campaign is not only important to me because I see the direct impact that it provides for our community, but my grandmother, Nancy but "Nanny" to me, battled breast cancer twice. She was a woman of true grace and grit and always seemed to find something to smile about through the many trials of life she experienced. You could usually find her sipping coffee while she was knitting something pretty. Nanny's favorite color was pink, and she was often seen wearing a small, pink butterfly pin. This was a symbol of hope, peace, and courage.
Please join me and the RMH Foundation to save lives and those affected by breast cancer!
