Story

Hello everyone! I'm excited to share a meaningful journey I'm about to embark on – running the London Marathon for the National Autistic Society. I've decided to lace up my running shoes and hit the pavement, not only to challenge myself physically but also to make a difference in the lives of individuals and families affected by autism.

Why the National Autistic Society? Autism is a complex neurodevelopmental condition that affects millions of individuals worldwide. It's a spectrum, which means it manifests differently in each person. I've had the privilege of knowing and learning from some incredible individuals on the autism spectrum, and their unique perspectives have inspired me to take action. The National Autistic Society works tirelessly to improve the lives of autistic people and their families by providing support, resources, and advocating for their rights. By running the London Marathon for them, I hope to contribute to their mission.

My Personal Connection: I have seen first hand the impact of Autism on the individuals who are living with it, but also the impact on the families and carers. The magic of receiving a hug from a child with autism is priceless and cannot be taken for granted. I have also seen the despair with families trying to navigate systems and paperwork to seek the best support for their child. The resources are so limited and the need so great.

The London Marathon: A gruelling but rewarding journey: Training for and completing a marathon is no small feat. It will require dedication, hard work, and perseverance, very similar to what parents and carers do day in day out for their children and family members. There is a distinct difference, I know the end goal, the course is clearly mapped out. The same cannot be said for those on the autistic journey. Over the next few months, I'll be sharing my training progress, the ups and downs, and the lessons I learn along the way. You'll get a glimpse into the physical and mental challenges I face, all in the name of supporting the National Autistic Society.
