Story
2024 marks 10 years since my daughter Emily was diagnosed with a brain tumour at Great Ormond Street Hospital and this year I will be running my 9th London Marathon in aid of GOSH.
Thanks to the generosity of many supporters I have raised just under £160,000 for GOSH since 2015 and it would be wonderful to add another good sum to this total. GOSH continues to play such a big part in Emily's life and without all the treatment, care and support that she has received there, she wouldn't be with us today.
Since June 2014 when she was first diagnosed, Emily has undergone countless surgeries at GOSH. As a consequence of the tumour, she has completely lost her eyesight. Damage to her pituitary function means that she is on hormone replacement medication throughout each day. She suffers from hypothalamic obesity, as well as autism caused by damage to the cognitive functions of her brain.
Despite all these immense challenges, Emily is incredibly cheerful and positive. She enjoys attending her school, loves playing with her siblings, singing, playing the piano, swimming and riding her tandem bike with me at the weekends.
Similarly, Great Ormond Street is such an incredibly inspiring, uplifting and positive place: without the support and encouragement of all the staff there we could not have got through the past ten years. Running the London Marathon each year is a small way of saying 'thank-you' for all that they continue do to do for Emily and for us.
Thank you for your generous support, which means a great deal.
