This winter, I watched my sister-in-law endure a challenging and invasive surgery at The Ottawa Hospital. Her recovery process was nothing short of gruelling, and I couldn't help but notice the crowded, overburdened unit she was in (and still in as I write this in early March). The hallways were filled with equipment, and staff were scrambling to care for each new patient. It was clear that she, like so many others, would have benefited from a private room, a bit bigger space for peace and healing—something the new hospital will provide.

What many don't realize is that while the government helps with some of the cost of building hospitals, they don’t cover the critical technologies and equipment needed to save lives. That's where we come in.

As I train for my upcoming virtual half marathon, despite an injury, I’m reminded of the resilience we all need in times of hardship. Every step I take is a step toward a better tomorrow—a tomorrow where healthcare is more advanced, more accessible, and more humane.
