Story
Most of us will know someone - a friend, family member, neighbour, workmate - who is suffering from, or undergoing treatment for, prostate cancer.
Prostate cancer is the 4th most common cancer worldwide, and the 2nd most common cancer in men.
In the UK, about 1 in 8 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetime, which rises to 1 in 4 men of colour. More than 180,000 U.S. men will be diagnosed this year, and 80% of American men who reach the age of 80 will have it. Guadeloupe had the highest overall rate of prostate cancer in 2022, followed by Lithuania.
So it can happen anywhere.
This has become personal for the ASAP Team, as James (Foice, ASAP CEO) has been diagnosed with prostate cancer himself. He’s currently responding well to his treatment and is looking forward to rolling his sleeves up and getting back to travelling in the New Year.
We're in contact almost every day, and he's doing as well as can be expected - he hasn't lost his sense of humour, thank heavens, and says he's looking forward to buying even more flowery shirts once his hormone treatment kicks in.
While the ASAP Membership and its reach are truly global, James and the core team are based in the UK and it's the UK Prostate Cancer charity that is there for James right now. So we'd like to be able to help them raise awareness, fund life-changing research, campaign for change and provide much needed support.
Please help as well, by donating towards our fundraising efforts. We'll keep uploading our different campaigns, sponsored efforts and how you can help at the annual conference itself, so please keep watching our various communications for more.
Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving - they'll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, which you can keep anonymous if you wish, they'll send your money directly to the charity. So it's the most efficient way to donate - saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
Thank you for any help you can give, whether by donating, doing some kind of fundraiser yourself, or spreading the word.
