Story
On Friday the 18th of October, I’ll be spending a night sleeping on the streets of London, not just to raise funds, but to honour the memory of my uncle, who we tragically lost earlier this year. His story weighs heavily on my heart, and it’s one that needs to be heard.
My uncle struggled with various mental health issues throughout his life. He was let down by a system that should have protected him, released from a mental institution when he wasn’t ready, without any warning to us—his family. Not long after, he ended up homeless, alone, and his body was later found by a group of kids in a makeshift shelter in the woods. He deserved so much more.
This October, I’ll be joining my dad and step-sister on the streets. My dad, in particular, has taken this to heart—he was his brother, and in many ways, the little family my uncle had left, with both of my grandparents on his side passing way before they should have. We’re doing this to shine a light on the harsh reality faced by so many who fall through the cracks, just like my uncle did. No one should have to face homelessness, especially not those already battling mental health challenges. It breaks my heart to think of him out there… I can only imagine what he must have felt.
The number of people sleeping rough in London is at a record high—it's impossible to ignore, and yet people seem to be becoming desensitised to it, especially as so many are struggling themselves with the ever-increasing cost of living. Now more than ever, it’s important we come together to help. Streets of London provide vital support to those living on the streets, funding projects that not only offer immediate relief but also long-term help to rebuild lives.
By joining my dad and step-sister on this night, I hope to raise awareness, but more than that, I hope to make a real difference in memory of my uncle. I want his story to be a call to action for others in need.
Any support you can give, whether through a donation or by sharing this page, would mean the world to me. Every little bit helps, and together we can provide someone with the support they need to find their way off the streets for good.
Thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for your kindness and generosity.
