Story
To celebrate 20 years of marathon running I will be taking on my 20th 26.2 mile race when I hit start line in London on 27th April.
Yes, it all began (and nearly ended) in Edinburgh in 2005 when I hobbled over the line, shin-splints and all, with folks wondering if I'd fallen into the harbour at Newhaven such was the time it took to finish.
Since then its been onwards, upwards, backwards, sideways and literally all over the place - from the amazing skylines of New York (2007), a blistering 29C heatwave in Boston (2012), shivering at 0C at the start line in Tokyo (2014) and being absolutely drenched in a torrential downpour in Florence (2017). I've done 2 in 6 days (2012) and even once did an ok time - 3hrs 25m - in Milwaukee (2019)
It's been a journey as they say and right from the start I've combined this mad quest with the aim to raise funds for my chosen charity the Royal National Institution for Blind People. They do so much for blind and partially sighted people and their families, see here : https://www.rnib.org.uk
I have set a lifetime target of raising £26,200 for the RNIB - yes, 26.2 miles = £26.2k (yes, it's a generous mileage allowance but have you seen the price of energy gels?). Thanks to unbelievable generosity from family, friends and colleagues I'm now really close and only have about £1,500 to go!
A bit like when you hit mile 25 I’m within touching distance of the target but still have work to do. So any support you can give them between now and the end of April would be so appreciated by me and the RNIB.
