Story
Thanks for supporting my fundraising.
My mother died of cancer in 2019 and my husband lost his mother to a different cancer the year before. Both were community based doctors.Thankfully they didn’t suffer for long and there was family support. In my mother’s case she was cared for at home by my father.Though my mother was a GP and familiar with end of life care the Macmillan nurses provided security, support and reassurance when there seemed little hope. They provided clarity about end of life care and the options available. It was a comfort to her to know that help was at hand when she couldn’t help herself. We all greatly valued that and I know she was grateful for the care she received from them.
I’m returning to walk in the County of my birth,a part of the world I love and where my family comes from and still lives today.I’m walking through 50km of the beautiful Peak District on July 6th in memory of my mother to support Macmillan.
As a doctor myself I deeply appreciate the work of Macmillan in the community I serve and know how important their work is.Their funding is almost entirely from voluntary contributions and they offer vital assistance to the NHS.They provide patients and families with the much needed support at home at a desperate and vulnerable time in their lives.
Your support is deeply appreciated.
