Story
Human rights are designed to be invisible. We don’t really think about having the freedom to express our own opinions, being able to get a book from the library, or walking outside without a head covering. But for many around the world, these routine freedoms are often threatened.
For people like Layla, rights and freedoms are something which must be fought for. As a documentary filmmaker from Iran, Layla wanted to raise awareness of women’s rights and conditions in Iranian prisons through her films. This open reporting led Layla to be imprisoned for three years in the very same prisons she reported on – cramped, dirty and overcrowded spaces.
Without the support of Prisoners of Conscience (PoC), people like Layla might be unable to re-build their lives and continue fighting for their, and in turn our, human rights. Which is why we are raising money for PoC this April.
For the next 30 days, we're committed to walking with weights on our ankles for one hour each day. These weights symbolise the struggles that many face when they stand up for what they believe in, facing injustice, persecution, imprisonment or worse. With every step we take, we'll be reminded of the challenges endured by those who bravely fight for their rights despite living in fear and inequality.
Together, let's walk for their burden and make a positive impact in the lives of others. Thank you for your generosity and support.
