Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page!
We have been friends since our children started at Sheen Mount Primary School but particularly unified in grief, with the illness and subsequent death of our good friend and fellow school Mum, Katharine Vile. She valiantly fought breast cancer, even completing the school to Paris bike ride in the last 6 months of her life but sadly lost her battle, in November last year. She was extraordinary in pushing herself in all manner of achievements throughout her life and despite it being shorter than it should have been, she achieved so much.
We have thought about taking part in a fundraising challenge, in her honour, for some time - although we can't exactly match the extremes of challenges she would have been able to take on!
It was potentially going to be a bike ride but in May after a little bit of wine and then a strong dream about Katharine, Katie found the Thames Path Challenge - and we signed up! With inspiration from Kate's creative business NEON+THREAD and with we suspect how we will be feeling, our team name is 'Hanging by a (NEON+) THREAD'. (We are all wearing a NEON+THREAD necklace in the picture - a marketing opportunity not to be missed!)
We will be walking 100km over the weekend of 14th/15th September. 50km from Putney to Runnymeade on the Saturday and then 50km from Runnymeade to Henley, on Sunday. The rowing destinations and the Thames will feel poignant for Katharine too.
There has been so much development and progress in cancer knowledge and treatment but sadly not enough for Katharine - we hope that any money raised will help others in the future.
Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving - they'll never sell them on or share them.
We've all funded our places, so any money raised will be going to the charity, not to the event.
Thank you for reading and thank you for any donation you feel you can give.
