Please donate to support me run the London Marathon in April 2025!
I am fundraising for Leukaemia Care because in April this year my dad Paul was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukaemia. He has undergone six months of intensive chemotherapy, culminating in a stem cell transplant in September. His illness is complex and very hard to treat – only 15% of people with this form of leukaemia survive for more than 5 years post diagnosis. However, in his case we remain very hopeful.
Prior to his illness, my dad was an avid runner and has completed nine marathons, including London several times. He taught me to love running when I was at school, tolerating my insistences that my heart was giving in a few hundred metres into every run. Running to raise money for Leukaemia Care seemed like the best way to help others affected by this illness, so that in future fewer families will have to go through what we have over the last nine months.
Leukaemia Care is the UK’s leading leukaemia charity, dedicated to improving diagnosis, information, advice, treatment and support for everyone affected by leukaemia and related blood cancers. The charity has been working for 50 years to improve treatment and outcomes for patients. Whilst survival rates for leukaemia patients have more than quadrupled over the last 40 years, the UK lags behind the European average.
I would really appreciate anything you might be able to contribute to this really important cause – thank you.
