Story
Biffa's Learning and Organisational Development Management Team is spending a day carrying out a sponsored litter pick to transform an area of Manchester for the benefit of local residents and the environment. All money raised will go to Wasteaid, Biffa's corporate charity.
Team members taking part are: Pete Hallard, Anthony Aarons, Ron Ambrose, Natalie Brown, Leo Capernaros, Anthony Durston, Rob Gosney, Louise Hartstean, Paul Holland and Fay Lacy.
All the money raised will go to support waste workers in countries where formal waste management services do not exist. Biffa's fundraising target is £25,000.
Money raised will support people like Tevelon Morgan, a waste collector in Johannesburg, who is disabled and is the main breadwinner for his family of 9. Here there are no formal waste collection or recycling services, and with high unemployment rates, people such as Tevelon support their families by picking waste plastics. By providing him with a trolley and some work boots, Tevelon has been able to improve his income earning potential by 50%, making a huge difference to his life and those of his family, as well as to the community he is helping to clean up.
We'll share before and after photos so you can see the difference we've made. We appreciate any support you can give.
