Annie's fundraiser for Acorns Children's Hospice Trust

Acorns Sahara Trek 2025 · 18 October 2025 to 25 October 2025 · Start fundraising for this event
I'm taking on a huge challenge and will be trekking the Sahara Desert in October 2025 in aid of Acorns Children's Hospice.
By supporting my challenge, you will be helping to raise funds for children affected by life limiting and life threatening medical conditions, and their families.
As a team of 14, we will be trekking 50km across the desert before returning to Marrakech to spend two days volunteering at a community project.
After spending the last 5 years either pregnant or taking care of small children, I am excited to have some time to focus on myself, to take on a challenge and go on an adventure. But most importantly, I want to raise as much as possible to help support families that are cared for by the incredible organisation that I work for.
In the 6 months I have been part of the team here at Acorns, I've had the privilege of meeting some families who have relied on the care the hospices.
I went to visit Karen, Johnathan and Rupert at their home. Their daughter Thea, spent 15 days receiving end of life care before she died in their arms at just 3 weeks old.
"When we arrived at Acorns with Thea, it was like a blanket was wrapped around us. We were living moment to moment, expecting we could lose her at any second. Acorns provided us with the comfort and reassurance to make the time with Thea count."
I also met a little boy called Max, and his mum Lizzie. He is a cheeky little boy that you couldn't help but warm to but Max has an extremely rare condition which has led to complex medical needs. Time at Acorns for him and his family makes them feel much less alone.
“We have a community here at Acorns, we’ve made friends with other families and it’s so nice to have that support network of parents who are in a similar position. It’s lovely to have a place to come where Max is just accepted, you don’t feel different and can just relax and enjoy the activities.”
I will be hugely grateful for any support you can give, thank you.
