Exeter Half Marathon 2024 · 10 February 2024 to 11 February 2024 ·

In the UK, 1 in 10 babies need specialist care at birth. SSNAP supports sick & premature babies and their families in the Newborn Care Unit at the John Radcliffe Hospital. Imagine your newborn baby needing specialist care at birth. Instead of those very special days getting to know your baby as a family, you’re catapulted into an unfamiliar world of incubators, wires, medical tests and interventions. While your baby has specialist treatment, we provide emotional and practical support to help you through the trauma & upheaval. We’re there to help families cope, and provide state-of-the-art medical equipment and nursing expertise that could save babies lives.

Story

Hey all,

In February I'll be running my first half marathon to raise money for SSNAP, a small, Oxford based charity that provides support for sick and newborn babies and their parents. Their work includes funding essential equipment for the NHS, supporting parents and staff, and investing in new research.

I was born prematurely at thirty weeks myself, with twin to twin transfusion and various other health complications, so this is a cause a close to my heart.

Donations of any size are welcome. Just £3.50 provides a Julian Donaldson book for parents to read to their premature baby whilst on the unit, while £6.50 provides ten hot drinks for parents and staff to power them through long nights.

Larger donations also help fund express pumps to allow mothers to breastfeed their tube-fed babies, psychological support for parents, and training for NHS staff. For more information on the impact your donation could make, see the SSNAP website here: https://www.ssnap.org.uk/.

Thanks so much for your support,

Annie
