Story
I’m raising money for two charities;
1) Macmillan Cancer Support
2) Hospice Care North Northumberland
If possible I’d like to keep donations roughly equal (you don’t have to donate to both!)
Why am I fundraising ?
Last year my step-father, Derek Fairnington, got a diagnosis of terminal cancer. We knew there was absolutely nothing we could do to change this. It felt the only thing we could do was to try to give him a “good” death. By that I mean; peaceful, dignified, free from pain and fear, and with friends and family close at hand. However we did not know where to start, we were “all at sea”, devastated and completely lost.
That was until we met our Macmillan nurse. She was exactly what we needed. It was such a relief to have her knowledge and advice. We really felt we were in safe hands. She was a great emotional support and practical help.
Derek did have a very peaceful death. It was without pain or fear and at home, in Wooler, as he wanted (with my mum and I beside him.)
I am SO grateful for this.
I will never be able to truly thank Macmillan Cancer Support enough, but raising money so they can continue their work and help others is my way of trying to show my appreciation.
Thanks for supporting my fundraising. Macmillan gives people with cancer everything they’ve got. If you’re diagnosed, your worries are Macmillan’s worries. Macmillan’s doing whatever it takes. But without your help, Macmillan can’t support everyone who needs them.
