On 21 April 2024 I am running the London Marathon for Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY) in memory of my close school friend Katie Benson.
7 March this year marked the fifth anniversary of Katie passing away and I hope to raise money for this charity in her memory.
Fuelled by the generosity of donations, CRY can continue its work to reduce the frequency of young sudden cardiac death (YSCD), support young people diagnosed with potentially life-threatening cardiac conditions, offer bereavement support to families affected by YSCD and continue the promotion and development of heart screening.
I also implore you to please get your heart tested and raise awareness of heart health amongst those around you. Each week in the UK at least 12 apparently fit and healthy young people die of undiagnosed heart conditions. By supporting CRY you will help save young lives from these potentially fatal cardiac conditions. See how your support can help by visiting www.c-r-y.org.uk
This is my first marathon and I quickly realised that a marathon is absolutely not the same as two half marathons! The last 10 weeks of training runs have been testing, particularly with sore knees, a bad fall and scoliosis spicing things up, but knowing that it’s all for such an important and potentially life-saving cause makes it so worth it.
I will be immensely grateful for any donations, and I look forward to running for Katie and hopefully seeing many of you along the way and at the finish line.
