Story
I will be running the 2024 London Marathon in support of Jesuit Refugee Service UK. JRS UK accompanies, serves and advocates for the rights of refugees. We work in a spirit of hospitality, compassion and solidarity to give hope, justice and dignity to refugees.
2023 was a year of newness and change and finding out who I wanted to be post-college athlete. Training and fitness had always been quite clear, with set times for when I had to go to practice, which weights I had to life, and how quickly I needed to run a sprint to pass my conditioning tests. In March, when I found out I’d be moving to London to start my career (and my life post-grad), it felt as though I’d truly have a fresh slate to be intentional about what my life would become. This city has been a dream thus far, and starting my time here with a marathon alongside driven, compassionate people is an incredible opportunity.
Running a marathon has been on my long-term bucket list for years and years. (Probably yours, too, right?) Playing basketball for so many years at a high level left me little time for other athletic endeavours, but I knew one day I’d have the chance. When I saw that JRS was taking applications for their remaining marathon bibs, I figured what better time than now. I was delighted when the team reached out to confirm my place, and I couldn’t be more excited to run for a Jesuit organisation that serves out of love, especially during a time of such conflict in the world where so many people continue to be displaced from their homes.
Please consider supporting JRS UK as I work towards my fundraising goal of £2000 and my training goal of 26.2 on April 21, 2024!
