Anna's fundraiser for Spinal Research

Sydney Marathon 2025 · 31 August 2025 · Start fundraising for this event
I am running the Sydney Marathon 2025 to raise money for Spinal Research!
My Auntie Dorie suffered from paralysis in her legs following an incident in 2008. It was totally life changing and affected her each and everyday.
The loss of independence was devastating, from struggling to walk and move around, needing helps with daily tasks and no longer being able to drive. These injuries are absolutely devastating and seeing your loved ones go through it is just heart breaking.
I'm running this my first marathon for Dorie and I'm running for anyone with any kind of spinal cord injury.
Someone sustains a spinal cord injury every four hours in the UK.
As a physiotherapist who works in the Acute Spinal Injuries Unit in Belfast, I regularly see and understand the devastating impact that spinal cord injuries have on both the person and their family/friends. One relatively simple incident, such as tripping on the stairs can turn lives upside down.
It can result in the loss of power and feeling in your arms and or legs, impacting independence and self identity. People go from totally independent to not being able to even feed themselves or breath properly.
Spinal Research is the UKs leading medical charity focused on the repair and restoration of the spinal cord. The GOAL: to beat paralysis.
Any donation whether large or small will be massively appreciated and will go towards groundbreaking research in this field. Thank you so much for any support!
