Story
Thank you for visiting my page. I've chosen to join the Walk For challenge, doing 55 miles in 31 days for Sarcoma UK, a national charity that funds vital research, offers support for anyone affected by sarcoma cancer and campaigns for better treatments.
Sarcoma is a type of cancer that develops in the bone and soft tissue. It is difficult to diagnose and one of the hardest to treat. Survival rates are around 70% compared to 84% which is the average for all cancers.
This is a charity close to my heart. In 2007 I was diagnosed with osteosarcoma at the age of 11. I underwent chemotherapy and multiple operations, ultimately resulting in an above knee amputation of my right leg. This October I am celebrating my 15 years all clear. A landmark I have always wanted to celebrate. When I saw this challenge I felt it was the perfect opportunity to mark the occasion and do something to raise awareness. 55 miles may not seem like a lot but as an above knee amputee it takes 70% more energy than an able bodied person to walk. I’m hoping to treat this challenge as a separate entity to my daily steps and want to walk on average 1.7 miles a day.
Your donations go so far in helping the sarcoma community:
£1 Could cover the cost of 10 texts to the support line.
£10 Could be used to buy microscope slides to look at cells in minute detail.
£30 Could fund one hour of use of a high-powered laboratory microscope.
£150 Could fund the support line for a week.
Always grateful for my amazing friends and family that are my biggest support network and have got me to where I am today.
Any donations would be massively appreciated x
