I’ve been a fundraiser for many years and sadly it’s bloody hard work. It’s honestly really hard on the soul because no matter how many hours you devote, how deserving the cause or how spectacular the challenge, the vast majority of people are just too busy, too apathetic or just too overloaded to get onboard.

I’ve often thought about how much good could be achieved if even a small fraction of the UK’s 40 million adults donated just £1 each to a nominated cause. That amounts to a huge amount of money that could potentially keep an organisation afloat for years! Who would genuinely miss £1? What can it buy you that you’d honestly miss if you were asked to skip it just this once?

It’s a mad idea but I thought I’d stop wondering about it, stick my neck out and challenge everyone to cut just £1 off this year’s Christmas budget and send the RNLI the most valuable Christmas Card they’ll ever receive. I’ve chosen them because I’ve been rescued myself and have seafaring family members. Please donate and SHARE, SHARE, SHARE and let’s see what we can achieve. Who knows, maybe this will gain some traction and we can break some records!
